How it works

An oil chamber built into the cable line.

CableLubie is fitted inline with the gear cable outer. Oil is injected through the self-sealing rubber jacket into the chamber. O-ring seals help guide the oil towards the inner cable, keeping lubrication where it is needed.

On many bikes, one CableLubie is fitted near the gear shifter. On full-length cable systems, a second CableLubie can be fitted before the derailleur.

How to fit

Simple fitment for confident home mechanics.

  1. Use a quality cable cutter and, ideally, a fresh inner cable.
  2. Fit CableLubie approximately 45mm from the gear shifter.
  3. For full-length outer cable systems, consider a second unit before the derailleur.
  4. Set up the gear cable first, then fill the chamber with oil.
  5. Check shifting, trim the cable and ride safely.

Bike maintenance needs mechanical judgement. If you are not fully confident, ask your local bike shop to fit it.

Will it fit my bike?

CableLubie fits common 4mm and 5mm bicycle cable outers, making it suitable for many MTB, road and commuter gear cable systems.

Is it for brake cables?

CableLubie is promoted here for gear cable maintenance. Do not modify braking systems unless you are completely sure the part and method are suitable.

How many do I need?

Many bikes use one near the shifter. Bikes with full-length outer cable runs may benefit from a second unit before the derailleur.

What oil should I use?

Use a suitable light cable lubricant. Avoid thick grease or products that may damage cable liners or rubber parts.
